Learn More About The Importance Of Preventative Dental Care
At McMillan Family Dental, one of our goals is to help patients enjoy optimal oral health throughout their lifetime. We only have one set of teeth, and we want to do all we can to help them last for as long as possible. One way we can help achieve this is through preventative dentistry.
Preventative dentistry focuses on keeping your teeth and mouth free from decay and disease. When you practice good preventative care, you are able to detect any problems in the mouth and treat them in the early stages. We want to help our patients create a solid foundation for their oral health.
The Best Ways to Practice Preventative Dentistry
The best thing that you can do for your teeth and mouth is to stay on top of your oral health needs. One way to do this is to properly care for your teeth, gums, and mouth every day. You should be brushing for a minimum of two minutes twice a day. Be sure that you are using a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle motions to brush your teeth and tongue. You should also be using dental floss daily. Dental floss is necessary to remove lingering food and bacteria from between the teeth. It is important to regularly check your teeth, gums, tongue, lips, and throat for anything that doesn’t seem right. Be sure to contact us if you notice a problem.
Receiving routine oral hygiene examinations is also a great way to practice preventative dentistry. During these visits, we thoroughly remove any lingering plaque. We also check your teeth and mouth for signs of decay, gum disease, and oral cancer. For many of our child, teen, and adult patients, we recommend a visit every six months. However, there are some patients with certain conditions who may need to visit us more often.
We want to help you and your family have excellent oral health for many years to come. If you or a loved one needs an oral hygiene examination, be sure to contact our office located in Meridian, ID. We hope to see you soon!
