Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA) is one of the most important tools we have at our disposal for diagnosing TMD and helping our patients find relief from their pain. The analysis involves a simple, non-invasive joint function screening with a device called the BioJVATM. During the JVA, we listen to and record the noises and vibrations the jaw makes as the patient opens and closes their mouth. The screening only takes a few moments, is completely painless, and provides us with vital information for determining the nature and severity of a patient’s TMJ disorder. We then use the JVA results to create an effective TMD treatment plan for our patient.
Our doctors use comfortable oral appliances to treat TMJ/TMD. The standard TMJ appliance is a stabilization splint, more commonly known as a bite guard or bite plate.
